This Cage Within My Chest

"And for one night, I will close this cage for you, and put this wolf on it's leash. For one night, and only for you, will I lock this door within me and forget the voice that calls for fire and burning. I will stand in place for you, and I will wait until you wrap your arms around me and calm the roaring beast I call my heart. And though I may never know such a gentle moment again, I will savor the change it instills in me, and embrace the calm water that washes over me as you brush your lips against mine. Long have I waited for the song of your voice to soothe the savage animal I keep, and I stand in awe of this singular moment when you look into the darkened pools of my eyes and whisper my name. Send me now to bed so that I may dream of you, so that I may remember in vivid detail all that you are and all that you have given me. This one moment is the greatest gift that I could have ever asked for, and I shall cherish it as I cherish the breath that fills my chest and the blood that flows like red wine through my body. Lay my head upon your chest so that I can hear the gentle drumming of your heart, let it's soft rhythm lull me to sleep. And under the stars we shall lay, with your fingers entwined with mine and your warm breath stirring my hair like the softest summer breeze. Let tomorrow burn with yesterday's flames, let the moon rise after this night with the howling of wolves and the shedding of tears. But for now, let us sleep in soothing starlight, and dream of a life we may never know."
